PopeWatch: Do You Want Fries With That Encyclical?

PopeWatch2-199x300-199x300-199x300

Not an Eye of the Tiber story:

Roman Catholic cardinals have hit out over plans for the Vatican to rent out a property next to St Peter’s Basilica in Rome to US fast food chain McDonald’s.

The Catholic Church would recieve 30,000 euros (£27,000) a month if they allowed the company to use part of a building in a square adjacent to the Vatican as the site for the new restaurant.

Cardinals, who live in apartments above the location of the proposed McDonald’s, have protested the move and described it as a “perverse decision”, the Evening Standard reports.

Go here to read the rest.  PopeWatch does not have a problem with this, although he hopes that visits by Ronald MacDonald will be kept to a minimum as under the current papacy he might easily be mistaken for a senior Vatican official.

Given the way much of the Vatican higher ups are acting, Ronald McDonald’s presence would have an air if seriousness to it.

Coming soon; drive through absolution, with the purchase of one happy meal?

Two..two..two clowns for the price of one!
Let’s see St.Peters dome used as a billboard at night. Just think of the revenue stream.
Germany will be envious.
Prophylactic advertisement would round out the pontificate nicely.

Wow, finally the cardinals of the Church have found something they consider “perverse.”

K, these Cardinals live in for-purchase apartments there– so they’re horrified that an apartment building near Saint Peter’s might have FOOD available?!?

Where do they eat now? Have they asked anybody else who lives in the apartment complex?
I notice there’s only one cardinal quoted as against it, and one guy identified as being “in charge” of preserving the area…when I try to find out more about him, that seems to actually be “head of the group named ‘Committee for the Protection of Borgo’,” which is a rather big difference, especially since they also quote a cardinal who is actually in charge of the situation who politely tells them to shove it.
Sounds like somebody lost and is attempting a re-do via media.

This article seems to have a lot more details:

The McD’s isn’t even inside of the Vatican’s walls.

Thanks, Foxfier. It appears that the cardinals and other tenants would be temporarily inconvenienced because one of two elevators would be used solely for remodeling of the commercial spaces. Surely the management of Vatican owned property could set the business hours, minimize the cooking fumes, and bar neon signage in the lease, then Mcdonalds could take it or leave it. I doubt that the rent check would bounce and the income would help upkeep of the the building.
I suspect Pope Francis would want a burger named after himself….maybe one with ham.

CAM…Hold the pickles hold the lettuce let the Liberals orders , don’t upset us, all we have is Francis Magnus..don’t cha-know you can have it your way.

Okay. It’s not catchy….but the Francis Magnus burger is soft, tasteless and borderline …great?

Ambiguous burger is another name for our shoot from the hip pope slider.
