. The trouble with humor is that sin happens there more easily. I hope you rethink and take this down. His wanting peace through dialogue with ordinary muslims was bizarre in that ordinary muslims are in our army and most often pose no problem at all. Dialogung with ISIS is delusional and he never tried it either. He’s delusional on peace. He was not denying Christ. I might think that both John Paul II and Benedict denied the Holy Spirit’s words in Romans 13:4 on the death penalty circuitously and effectively but not full consciously and don’t we all do that in any moment of sin…deny God in each moment of sin. I think this humor breaks the 8th commandment because it posits conscious explicit denial of Christ where there might be circuitous denial such as we all have in an unbalance of the will or intellect.
I think Donald’s post is appropriate and hope that he retains it at this blogsite.
“I think this humor breaks the 8th commandment because it posits conscious explicit denial of Christ where there might be circuitous denial such as we all have in an unbalance of the will or intellect.”
The post will stay up. The very least that the Faithful have a right to expect from the Pope is that he will avoid scandal in his public statements. Pope Francis clearly does not regard that minimal requirement as part of his duties. He deserves to be criticized for this, and this video does precisely that. How I long for the days when “Is the Pope Catholic?” was not a relevant inquiry.
FWIW, I’m with Bill Bannon. While I am often (more than) puzzled by Pope Francis’ comments, I do not think that it is just to ascribe to him the sentiment expressed at the 0:47 mark: The denial of Jesus Christ.
It is not out-of-bounds to criticize the Holy Father; and, indeed, in charity it may sometimes be necessary. But, to claim – however tongue-in-cheek or satirically – that he does not believe in Jesus Christ is pretty close to slander.
I know that the video was produced by The Bear, but it is posted with full approbation here.
+++ I meant to say “originally shared by The Bear”.
If this video of the Pope advocating syncretism were an isolated issue, then gving him the benefit of the doubt would be the right and correct thing to do. But everything he has done during his Pontificate has been in support of that cultural Marxism discussed in another TAC post this morning: the climate warming encyclical Laudato Si, the pagan enviro-wacko light show on St Peter’s Basilica during the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the appointment of heterodox Bishops to Episcopal Sees, the fiasco at the Synod on the Family and his support however covert of communion for adulterers, happily receiving a commie crucifix from a Latin American dictator, etc ad nauseam. I wish there were a process to impeach Popes, but sadly, the Vatican is even more wishy-washy, weak-kneed, yellow-belied and cowardly than the Congress in our own country.
Wow. This is harsh, but is it sinfully harsh? I can’t answer that one.
.
I’m a ripe person to love this Pope, of whom we legitimately ask “Is [this] Pope Catholic?”
.
One of my parents died quite miserably and alone (albeit at home–we were all gone at the time) after a long battle with cancer, a rosary on her person. The other died in a facility, also of cancer. Neither were Catholic, one was an admitted agnostic. Neither had gone to any type of religious service in years. And yet they upheld the indissolubility of marriage, condemned fornication, would have been horrified at the thought of gay marriage. Mother especially opposed women priests (but wasn’t too sure about the whole celibacy issue. I don’t blame her.)
.
I’m a convert, but feel like a Protestant most of the time (as in, I’m always protesting Rome). All of our friends are Protestant (some go to Church, others don’t much). All good people. Our own children are basically Protestant, and their friends are all Protestant.
.
It is difficult for me to think these people are going to end up in Hell (on in the case of my deceased parents are already there.)
.
Oh yes, I ought to love this Pope. I don’t. Wish he would go away. I don’t know if Pope Burke would be the Pope that St. Peter was, but he could only be better than the one we have. People need to be called to Christ. I don’t see Pope Francis doing that. And if he won’t, what are the sheep to do?
“what are the sheep to do?”
To defend Catholic orthodoxy which is not only our right but is our duty. In this papacy I think we are having a Church wide experiment about how high the temperature can get before the lobsters in the pot begin to notice. This lobster has noticed and is not going to be quiet about it.
Lucius,
” everything he has done during His pontificate has been in support of that cultural Marxism” is hyperbole if you read all his homilies. Again I wish we had a Pope who addressed the entire world on the seriousness of the after life in a press conference. None of them have in my lifetime and it would bring hundreds of thousands of fallen away Catholics back to Mass and safety. His two predecessor Popes said we couldn’t be sure Judas was in hell….that despite Christ saying Judas perished in past tense prophecy prior to Judas’ sinning. Past tense prophecy is certain and unconditional according to Justin Martyr. Did his two papal predecessors deny Christ? Circuitously yes…consciously…no.
DJH,
Ask your Catholic pastor as to whether you can do two plenary indulgences for your deceased parents and give him the details you gave us. I’ve done five for my ancestors and if you’re ever given by God an insight into purgatory’s seriousness, you will value plenary indulgences above the powerball jackpot by light years. Talk to him. God is outside time and always knows the future behaviour of sons. Remember when Christ in Luke 12 said of some servants ” they will be beaten with many stripes”…many is not eternal…servant is not outside salvation. He was talking about the severity of purgatory. Do the work of the plenary for your parents unless your pastor says differently.
Thanks Donald. The Bear always has worthwhile things to say and this video is certainly one of them. Pope Francis is an outrageous personality who is leading his flock astray by preying on their credibility of him. He should be prayed for but not listened to. And if we have an opportunity we should let others know that we believe Pope Francis is destroying the Catholic Church. This is our duty as members of the Church Militant.
There was a time I respected the posts on this site (sigh).
Hopefully Will, Pope Francis will give me happier subjects to comment upon, but I am beginning to suspect that is a forlorn hope.
Donald, your post is spot on, and I thank you for it. And I am a fan of the Bear, too. God bless both of you.
Thank you James!
Disagreement is one thing. Disrespect another.
Respect is a two way street Will, and the Pope has shown little but scorn for those within the Church who disagree with him.
Looks like someone over at the other end took down the video.
Vimeo took it down because of a copyright infringement challenge by La Machi, the Argentinian group that made the original video. Looks like the parody video struck a nerve.
As well it should. Even the possibility of scandal should be avoided. What are the Pope’s advisors saying to the Pope?
If this were a rather isolated incident, then BB you might have a point. All that Louie’s video did was put in words what is highly likely already in Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s head. The only thing missing from the original video was an explicit statement “I am the Bishop of Rome, and I approve this message.” It is inconceivable that he would have allowed his portions of the video to be used without his knowledge. And as by now he should know of the finished product (it is available to anyone with an internet connection), if he does not agree, he should repudiate it.
But crickets.
DJH says: I’m a convert, but feel like a Protestant most of the time (as in, I’m always protesting Rome). All of our friends are Protestant (some go to Church, others don’t much). All good people. Our own children are basically Protestant, and their friends are all Protestant.

. Still DJH outside of the Catholic Church there is no salvation.
