Think It Will End With Confederates?

He talked of the early days of America and the men who had made those days. It wasn’t a spread-eagle speech, but he made you see it. He admitted all the wrong that had ever been done. But he showed how, out of the wrong and the right, the suffering and the starvations, something new had come. And everybody had played a part in it, even the traitors.

Stephen Vincent Benet, The Devil and Daniel Webster

The attempt to read Confederates out of American history, thereby implicitly giving a posthumous “You Are Right!” to the Confederate contention that they had left the Union, by the ignorant yahoos of the iconoclastic left, is only the beginning.  Hattip to my friend Paul Zummo, the Cranky Conservative:

Last week, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered a review of “symbols of hate” on city property. It got off to an okay start I guess. Some plaques to Robert E. Lee were removed, and this:

CBS2 reached out to de Blasio’s office to find out what criteria they will be using to determine which plaques and monuments across the city should be removed, but are still waiting for a response.

Now we have the response:

The city’s 76 foot tall monument to explorer Christopher Columbus which sits in Columbus Circle could be considered for the chopping block, removed as part of the mayor’s new purge.

“He is a controversial figure, and I know that many people take offense to that, but for many of us who come from the Caribbean Islands we see him as a controversial figure,” Council Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito said. “We have to look at history. We have to look at it thoroughly and clearly.”

This is to be expected. Eradicating Columbus has been on the leftwing ‘to-do’ list forever.

A spokesperson said Viverito also thinks that Grant’s Tomb should be on the review list. Grant has been regarded by some as anti-Semitic.

“In 1862, he signed general order 11, expelling Jews from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi. I wonder if you think that given the large number of Jewish, he should be buried in New York City,” CBS2’s Kramer asked the mayor.

“Marcia, I’m not familiar with that history. Obviously I take it very seriously, but I’m not familiar with it. We don’t tolerate anti-Semitism in New York City,” the mayor said. “We have to look at each one of these cases. We’ll have a commission. They’ll come up with some universal rules.”

(History of General Order 11)

As ESPN showed last night with its decision to reassign Asian sportscaster Robert Lee from doing play-by-play for a football game in Charlottesville, VA, because his name might be scary, we are no longer on a slippery slope when it comes to this nonsense. We are in a total freefall into the Volcano Of Good Feelings.

Go here to read the rest.  In addition to Confederate memorials, thus far the oldest monument to Christopher Columbus in the US has been vandalized, along with a bust of Abraham Lincoln in Chicago.  There have been calls to demolish the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington, blow up Mount Rushmore, and to rename parks in Chicago named after Presidents Washington and Jackson.  Go here for a  list of targets.  You see, the deranged left in this country doesn’t really hate the Confederacy that came to an end 157 years ago.  Without the whole race aspect, the Confederacy might well have a cult following on the left today.  What really raises the hackles of the left is another country:  the United States of America.

  1. The Left is out of ideas. They are intellectually bankrupt. Embrace Islam again? Hard to do at the moment since Barcelona is too recent. Trump and the Russians? A lie from John Podesta. Hildebeast’s Lie Supplier. Charlottesville is just another broken down meme for the Loony Left to latch onto.
Trump’s biggestaccomplishment do for is to make the Left publicly lose any appearance of sanity. All of the major networks, Hollywierd, etc. are openly bat dung crazy. Bannon hopes they keep it up and has publicly said so.

  2. It truly is amazing to see the Left continually come up with new objects of its perpetual outrage. The proof that its outrage is perpetual is that society seems to cave to its demands on a regular basis these days and yet nothing changes. There are always new demands and fresh outrage. It must be exhausting.

  3. There is a story, I forget the source but I remember hearing it in a talk between Peter Robinson and Jonah Goldberg of a diplomat (I think) asking a Soviet, “What would you do if we gave in and accepted all of your demands on this list?” To which the Soviet replied, “You would get our next list of demands.”

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, don’t trust any person or organization which doesn’t have a planned “end point.” If they can’t tell you “this, this is when we know we have won” no matter how unlikely it is, do not trust them.

Anyway, it’s not just America, but they’re after Catholics too.

Ultimately, they want to destroy the past. Not only because then it’s perpetually year 0 for the Left, but because the Left really, REALLY doesn’t like people remembering their failures or past mistakes.

  4. The left is like my weekly trash;
    It has no value anymore
It’s good only if it gets recycled (converted)
It’s an impediment that never seems to be removed
    It frankly stinks

  5. The thing is BLM/Antifa terrorists haven’t the slightest clue about the men memorialized in the statues.

This is akin to the Red Chinese Cultural Revolution, only more stupider.

I would compare Antifa and BLM to the Khmer Rouge (KR), but that would unfairly insult the KR.

  6. The medieval Inquisition would exhume and burn heretics’ bones.

    it is universal detraction.

It is a symptom of the rot of public education/brain-washing.

it is applying 21st century amorality, deceit and ignorance to History.

This morning, NYC TV news reported the hysterical Soros Youth are contemplating removing from the “public square” Peter Stuyvestant because he was an anti-Semite. Who knew?

  7. Here SF pet /apt sitting for eldest son on business trip. Hysteria about Patriot Prayer permitted assembly this weekend. Now cancelled by group leader because “we feel we have been set up and wish to avoid violence.” But antifa groups say they will still assemble. Are they permitted? (I guess the rabble still want to be paid.) Until this am never heard the group’s name only referred by news as alt right, neo Nazi. Looking up Patriot Prayer it seems they are conservatives for small gov’t. But the SPLC(or whatever the abbreviation is) has deemed PP a hate group. Whatever happened to true investigative reporting? SF more corrupt and crazier then ever.

  8. Re Peter Stuyvestant being anti Semitic never read that before. What I have read that there were many wealthy Jews in New Amsterdam who had fled Spain to the Netherlands. For example Henriquez became Hendricks etc. Some of these Dutch Jews financed the War of Independence.

  9. yeah CAM, i looke up the patriot prayer myself and can’t find ANY evidence if his views – no screenshots, no quotes. Just places accusing them of being hateful. But then when i look into it i see they’re just generally conservative and patriotic so i guess that’s what “hateful” means for most of the Left nowadays.

  10. Nate, am having same problem with phone vs keyboard. On car radio this eve heard head of Patriot P deny white supremacy allegations as he of Japanese ancestry. #2 is of Mexican. #3 is a female.

  11. A common psychological aberration is trying to tear down or denigrate ones betters in order to compensate for feelings of inferiority about oneself. In these particular incidents , the feelings are valid as the perpetrators are, indeed, inferior beings.
