Autumn

Something for the weekend.  Autumn from the Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi.   Composed in 1725, like all of Vivaldi’s music it scampered into obscurity after his death, only to be surprisingly revived in the rediscovery of Vivaldi in the last century.

Fall has always been my favorite season.  Gone is the heat of summer and I find the cooler weather bracing.  The leaves in all their glorious colors, as they move from life to death, have always struck me as a symbol of a life well spent.  A time for action and meditation, at least in my practice for some reason.  The leaves this year in Central Illinois seem especially gorgeous this year.

I never tire of Vivaldi’s music, especially the Four Seasons. I have three different recordings of the suite. We found early Fall in NW Illinois also to be especially brilliant this year, though we have now returned to north Texas for the winter.
Thanks for the beautiful visuals!

Thanks for sharing this. Vivaldi is a terrific composer. Love The Seasons suite. Autumn is great, but my favorite of the four is Spring.

I’ve always thought of Alan Hovhannes’ Anahid as a kind of Three Seasons – no winter. The harvest is laboriously sown, the heat of summer brings toil and worry, and then the autumn harvest is reaped with joy. . This link is timed to start with the onset of autumn: https://youtu.be/kzAoiM-4MVQ?t=523
