Biden is not an idiot, but he is decidedly average — the kind of person who could manage to graduate from a mid-rate college and mid-rate law school with not quite mediocre marks. My sense is that his recent verbal lapses have more to do with his mediocrity than with any dementia, but it is possible that his college football days have tragically caught up with him. Many people with mediocre aptitudes out-perform in life, especially those with self-confidence. There can be no doubt that Biden possesses self-confidence in embarrassing excess.

Agreed, Don. Definitely below average for a law student, or perhaps even for a college student, but possibly close to average for society generally. Yet, I have encountered many people with quite unexceptional intelligence who have sound decision-making judgment. That is not Biden.

The verbal lapses which had his staff transport him several hundred miles to a nearly empty room at Carnegie-Mellon University in order to give a speech? The verbal lapses which have him appearning at ‘events’ with small audiences and little advance publicity to the exclusion of any other appearances? The verbal ‘lapses’ which have him appearing nowhere 1 day in 3?
