You have historical circumstances where parliamentary institutions can no longer perform basic functions. What Ernest Lefever said, “The first duty of a government is to govern. The second is to govern justly. The third is to govern democratically.” The right side won the Spanish Civil War. The trouble is, there were 600,000 deaths and untold destruction of property. Spain was a large and potentially self-sufficient country. It’s self-injury did none to the global balance of power. We face the spectre of China. We cannot be tearing each other apart, but the left recognizes any superordinate values. We’re the enemy about which they care.
