Around the nation riots continued overnight. What is striking to me is how small some of the communities are where these riots are taking place. Aurora is about 200,000 people and is about fifty miles north from me:
Clashes tonight in Aurora, as violent protesters, a group of about 70 people, set fires to cars and buildings downtown. CBS 2’s Charlie DeMar reports some of the fires were set to police cars and one of the department’s armored vehicles was shot at.
At of 10 p.m. the downtown area was shut down and there were officers patrolling streets with long guns.

Normal Illinois is a town of about 52,000 55 miles south from me:
Looters rushed into the Target and Walmart stores in Normal early Monday, capping an evening that began with a peaceful protest but soon turned dark.
Normal Police were lined up outside the Target entrance late Sunday night. Demonstrators gathered in force about 11:30 p.m. as dozens of cars streamed into the parking lot. A crowd of at least 50 exited vehicles with many more left further to the rear of the parking lot still in vehicles. They yelled profane chants and harassed police.
As the night wore on, the demonstrators became emboldened and began throwing water bottles, pieces of rock and brick and other materials at officers. The frequency of thrown objects splatting against riot shields increased. A store door shattered.

Riots are always opportunistic and copycat, but I believe there is a degree of coordination here considering the number of simultaneous outbreaks occurring. Let us know what is happening in your areas in the comboxes.
It’s a purposeful and concerted effort, paid for by George Soros. In Baltimore, there were tweets saying that there were peaceful protests, then suddenly, out-of-towners showed up and started smashing things, setting things on fire, and turning it into a riot. There were tweets from several cities around the country saying people had noticed pallets of bricks on street corners, and no construction sites anywhere. The evil & insanity of George Soros, and whoever controls him is limitless.
Andy Ngo, “Media, politicians, the public — all of us — have underestimated the training and capability of left-wing extremists, who are united in purpose. All the parts of rioting serve a purpose. Looting and fires destroy local economies. Riots can overwhelm the police and even the military. All of this leads to a destabilized state.”
It stopped being about George Floyd the first brick that was thrown.
In Springfield IL there were a couple of protests in the form of car processions over the weekend without incident. Suddenly, about 9 pm, the city issued an advisory to residents to stay home, due to, apparently unconfirmed reports/rumors of imminent “civil disturbance”. It doesn’t appear that anything serious happened but the local police are obviously preparing for that possibility. There was apparently some widespread looting in Champaign about 85 miles to our east.
Yeah, the Marketplace area got trashed:

Too many law enforcement agencies have been caught completely flat footed.
Could all this be an orchestrated “mega-plan”? The US government creates a false crisis (covid 19, the Black Sniffles”), locks people in their houses for months with nothing to do (idle hands…), pushes the unemployment up to roughly 15%, and provides just enough money in welfare payments to keep them alive but fearful. So, with 1/6 of our country under house arrest, bored, worried about their future, and being force-fed anti-government rhetoric 24 hours a day, the liberal-backed media takes the kill shot with a proven triggering event that has worked over and over again – the good old “white police officer brutalizes a black man” story. And when the violence erupts liberal progressive democratic leaders stand down their peace officers and just let it grow. It all seems too perfect to have just happened by chance…
Too many law enforcement agencies have been caught completely flat footed.
My wager would be that the police had a satisfactory idea of how to handle this problem but the politicians insisted they do something different. The Mayor of Minneapolis is a fatuous man, the Mayor of Chicago a vicious cretinette, and the Mayor of New York a fatuous man given twenty extra years to grow decrepit. Their behavior in these circumstances should surprise no one. They gave no indication at the time they were elected that they would behave any differently.
At last report there was a BLM protest rally scheduled for 3 pm in front of the Capitol Building. It will apparently be larger and, ahem, better organized than the activities that took place over the weekend. If things get interesting in Springfield that’s probably when it will happen. I would not be surprised if a dusk-to-dawn curfew is imposed tonight regardless of what happens — even if nothing untoward does happen they can say it was a precautionary measure.
My wager would be that the police had a satisfactory idea of how to handle this problem but the politicians insisted they do something different.
No doubt a large part of the problem Art.
Any curfew starting after 6 pm is nuts. They need to begin hours before dark.
This is Marxism in action. Let’s s call it that and maybe our fellow American “beatnick-Bernie lovers” will see it for what it is.
Remember who said, “You didn’t build that.”? They are burning it.
Kurt Schlichter, “It’s pretty amazing how our media elites were able to stop so quickly pretending that we were all going to be doomed by this bat soup virus unless we cower in our homes when it became useful to be out supporting the Democrat agenda of violence and tyranny.”
In a flash, a million Karens evolved from screaming at people for not wearing masks or socialist distancing to cheerleading for violent arsonists, looters, and rioters.
If you don’t have an AR-type weapon, sell your overcoat and buy one, along with a couple hundred FMJ bullets and eight or ten high-capacity (20’s) magazines. Then, practice releasing magazines and reloading until it’s natural. Point and click.
Providence, RI
Large peaceful protests during the day, and quiet overnight.
(Perhaps it’s a don’t mess with Gov Gina effect.)
Boston, MA
Large peaceful protests during the day, and then overnight a criminal element damaged a number of police cars and did loot on Newbury Street and Downtown Crossing. The Boston Police well prepared and did a superb job assisted by the National Guard and State Police.
Except for some shenanigans in Boston, I don’t expect much trouble in New England.
Although the liberal media is prevalent here, Yankee reservations dominate and such shenanigans are always considered criminal.
Large number of black police officers and intermarriage is fairly common – which I think has a tremendous stabilizing effect offsetting any leftist narrative.
There is Biblical precedent for T. Shaw’s statement, “If you don’t have an AR-type weapon, sell your overcoat and buy one…”
Jesus in Luke 22:36 said, “And let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one.”
Don’t expect the police to protect you from these gangsters and hooligans.
Tim Pool had at least some interesting videos and articles going over all of this. Like a pile of bricks set up somewhere.

No idea what’s going on yet. Heck I’m not even willing to make a substantial bet. Right about now… I’m almost put 50 cents on the democrats trying to actually burn down the country rather than let Trump get reelected.
Alternative? This is what 4 straight years of relentless fear-mongering results in.
But even Louisville is having problems.

There was a minor dust-up at the East Peoria WalMart on Saturday night. Some looting and some brick were thrown at the police on the scene. The police fired some pepperball at the protesters. In Peoria, there were some other protest protest at a Walmart, Best Buy, and the Shoppes At Grand Prairie. Thankfully, other than some chanting and shouting, nothing happened. I’m grateful that Peoria’s crime-ridden South Side didn’t flare up. That would have been a major disaster like Minneapolis!
T. Knight-
probably not planned specifically, but taking advantage of the situation.
A month and a half back a lady I read was pointing out that they were setting up serious mental trauma all across the country.

They probably noticed piles of bricks showing up where they didn’t have a good reason to be.
Here in the Buckeye state, at least in Columbus (which, it should be said, some are trying to chance the name of for obvious reasons), we’ve had several nights of vandalism. Some rioting in certain spots on different nights. In a couple cases they went after things like our historic theater, and they did attempt to storm the statehouse, breaking windows and whatnot. In smaller neighboring towns like ours, what protests happened have generally been peaceful affairs.
Radio says they vandalized the Lincoln Memorial in DC. Park Service confirmed.
Friends shared video of a “truck plowing into peaceful protesters”– the ****ing news crew carefully didn’t show the road the fuel truck was coming on, which has a nice, big curve, and it’s a 5 lane interstate, the police are claiming they don’t know if the driver hurt himself trying to slam on the brakes because he came around that corner and saw people on the road or when the freaking mob dragged him out of the vehicle. Assuming the photographs are accurate, he’s in better condition than the guy who stopped during the King riots, and we got lucky– they “only” wanted him, not the truck to go cause further damage.
The police also noted the driver was on the interstate legally.
That could’ve been me and the kids with the camper and van. I’m not sure I could’ve stopped as quickly as the fuel trucker did….and I can only pray I’d be on the ball enough to know that I should not stop.
It’s a long running hijacking tactic because it works.
Mysterious piles of bricks showing up, they attacked Federal law enforcement buildings (thank God everybody is still doing maximum working from home), at least two people shot dead and a total of four shot in one instance, a cop is among them and expected to recover.
Here’s a local guy covering the Des Moines/Iowa area:
https://twitter.com/shanevanderhart
(the Caffeinated Thoughts blog is a really good news/opinion site, too)
He’s way, way too quick to assume that having a press badge means you’re not also part of a mob, but I seem to remember he has that issue with the Palestinian “journalists” photographed packing rocket launchers right before death, too.
St. John’s church in DC was set on fire.

Detroit had a bad Saturday evening, with crowds surging near the Public Safety Headquarters. Someone in the crowd had a chem grenade with irritants and threw it at the cops, which drove them back about 50 yards. We saw that happen live–a local news team was driven back with the police.
After that, DPD started deliberately pushing people back, and they managed to disperse the group completely around 1am. Last night, an 8pm curfew kicked in and the police enforced it quickly.
Not a lot of damage downtown, but local news confirmed broken windows and people defecating/urinating on storefronts.
There is a real distinction between legit protests in Motown and anarchic behavior. From a look at other cities, it seems that here at least, the former are doing a decent job of keeping the latter in line. Also, the police has a line of communication with community activists which remains open. We aren’t seeing the chaos you see elsewhere, thanks be to God.
There is a real distinction between legit protests in Motown and anarchic behavior.
Agreed. Peaceful protests are one thing, I have been in a few myself. Riots are quite another.
One additional thought I mentioned to my wife: gun sales are going to be through the roof and then some this week.
Yep. Gun control is dead as an issue this election cycle.
People have the remarkable ability to maintain false viewpoints even with contradictory evidence before their eyes, but they also have a tendency to snap when pushed too far.
Some of my acquaintances are still making excuses for the riots saying things like “well they may have gone too far, but you really have to appreciate the circumstances that pushed them to do this and who am I to judge?” This includes people who live only a few blocks away from buildings that have burned to the ground.
But I know other people who used to say things like that and are now saying “Shoot them. All of them. Even if your only crime is being out after curfew. Just shoot them.”
There is a real distinction between legit protests in Motown and anarchic behavior.
Not in this case. The motor for these “protests” is utter humbug concealing malevolence.

35, 40 grain soft points or plastic tipped (varmint rounds) will mess up a rioter almost as much they would a prairie dog, and are also less likely to go through your neighbor’s house and into your neighbor’s neighbor’s house.
Be sure to know your state and local laws on permissible use of deadly force. Too many jurisdictions are likely all too willing to prefer maintaining the illusion of control by prosecuting honest citizens for trying to protect themselves, their families, neighbors, property, etc., than honestly admit they failed to do the hard work of stopping the wanton wildings of patriotic dissenters.
The riot in Sioux Falls got put down after about 90 minutes –before there was too much looting and vandalism. It helped that Governor Noem activated the National Guard hours before the scheduled protest. Helped more that the Guard unit activated was a military police unit with specialized equipment (Humvee with a sound cannon (for lack of a better description –sounded like the most annoying high’n fast pitched car alarm you ever heard–on TV –I’d hate to have that thing pointed at me.). The minute the crowd grew violent, local authorities declared an emergency and a curfew. I imagine that served to keep people from joining the riot, or relocating the riot to another part of town.
It also helped that the (professional? semi-pro?) trouble-making element was confronted by fellow, legitimate protesters. The Argus Leader had photos of demonstrators, lining up in front of the police to try to get the rock-throwers to stop throwing rocks. That was the most interesting aspect to me.
Ernst, It sounds sort of like a hand held grape-shot round. Napoleon knew how to handle the Paris Mob with his grapeshot.
Did anyone in other cities and states receive notices on their phones about curfews? Here in Cincinnati, we received two different alarms over our smart phones notifying us of the curfew and the times. It was like a Amber Alert / Tornado Warning / Flood Warning, etc. So anyone who claimed not to have known about the curfew is a liar. (BTW, we don’t even live in the City of Cincinnati but were also were notified.)
I just received at 6 PM, another notice of a curfew t 9 pm in the City of Cincinnati.
Here we go again…..
Ernst,
Right about high-power rifle rounds hitting into your neighbors. For that reason, I have a 12 ga. pump with a couple hundred rounds 00 buck shot.
Geneva Convention.
If I fire into eight or 50 bad guys pushing into my “castle” let them prosecute me.
If I were taken alive all they’d get is name and SSN.
Re: FMJ. If the brainless beauties are tightly grouped, a round could bring the good news to more than one each. Watching the buck running beside you suddenly flop with a round through the body immediately concentrates the senses. Anyhow, those game rounds (I have a box) are expensive relative to FMJ.
In other news, seen on Instapundit, a CO Dem fundraiser reported last night rioters got within two blocks of his house. He knows no one that owns a gun. He was buying one today.
Does Trump need to report this insanity to the US FEC as an in-kind campaign contribution?
He was buying [a gun] today
He may have paid for it today, but he won’t have it for at least a week. Maybe more, maybe less. Depends on how motivated the BATFE boys are to process those background checks.
Hopefully that’s another dose of reality.
Right about high-power rifle rounds hitting into your neighbors. For that reason, I have a 12 ga. pump with a couple hundred rounds 00 buck shot.
12 ga. hurts more than it did 20 years ago. That’s one reason why I opted for an “urban camoflauge” AR variant for home defense. Also because, after considerable research, I came to the conclusion that all defensive ammunition, regardless of caliber/gauge, was going through the wall behind the bad guy (and perhaps the wall or walls beyond that) if you were to miss your mark. 9mm, .45 acp, 00 buck, all of it is going through the wall behind the threat if you miss. So putting rounds into the intended target was more important than the stopping power of any ostensibly ideal defensive round. I shoot .223/5.56mm confidently and competently, so a semi-automatic carbine in that caliber is what I’ve selected for defending myself, my family, and my property if (God forbid) the occasion ever arises. The Remington .223 is more a high velocity than a high power round, so the right ammunition tends to dump all its energy into the target and stay there, rather than over-penetrating. They’re also more likely to fragment and lose energy in the first wall rather than remaining lethal beyond that. (Which is not to say they aren’t dangerous to innocent bystanders in the next house, let alone the next room. Those fragments can still maim or kill. But that’s true of any so-called manstopper. In this case, you picks yer poison and takes yer chances, as they say.)
The theoretical rules of engagement are slightly looser against rioters trying to break into or burn down your house from the outside compared to the hypothetical prowler/sneak thief after your Franklin Mint collectibles, or compared to the psychopath interested in rape and murder, of course. I can definitely envision scenarios in which a 12 ga. shotgun would be more tactically useful than sport/utility carbine.
Honestly, I wish I had a Winchester model 1897 “trenchsweeper” shotgun. Complete with bayonet. I think that would be more likely to cause an antics miscreant to reconsider his wayward ways than would an AR clone.
Not the shotgun. The long shabby thingy on the end of it.
Pax vobiscum
Antifa not antics. Stabby not shabby.
Autocorrect is a ChiCom plot to make us all crazy. I kid you not!
Ernst,
I’ve read good things about the Mossberg 590 A1 pump shotgun with nine round capacity. I have a nice Winchester from which I need to remove the tube plug. It won’t be hunt legal then.
If that doesn’t work , the Warden (all four-foot-ten of her) will defend me.
