A patron saint of the blind, Saint Ava was a daughter of King Pepin II of Aquitaine. Born blind, she was given her sight by Saint Rainfredis. She eventually became a Benedictine nun in a convent located in Dinant in what is now Belgium. She was elected abbess in 845.
