Even for the gang at the Vatican, the February dog and pony show on clerical sexual predators is amazingly cynical. George Neumayer at The American Spectator, hat tip to co-blogger Bob Kurland, gives us some of the low lights:
The winds of scandal whipping around the Church’s gay pederasty problem are not dissipating but picking up speed. This is foiling the devious plans of Pope Francis, who deliberately scheduled his “abuse summit” six months out in the hopes that few would care about it by then. News of that quickie gathering of bishops scheduled for next February commanded little respect from the laity before this week, but even less now that its primary American organizer has been announced — Blase Cupich, who owes his elevation in large part, according to Archbishop Carlo Viganò, to the very molester, Theodore McCarrick, whose scandal the summit will supposedly address.
It was McCarrick who whispered in the pope’s ear about appointing the relatively obscure Cupich to the immensely important archdiocese of Chicago. Overnight this appointment turned the nebbishy Cupich into the most powerful cardinal in America. In Baltimore at the fall bishops’ conference, Cupich was reveling in this status, playing with his cufflinks as he held court before awed staffers.
Cupich is of course the least credible American figure to address the abuse crisis. His resolve to purge the mini-McCarricks who populate the priesthood and hierarchy from the Church is nil. To the critical question — Should the Church continue to ordain homosexuals? — Cupich’s answer is a resounding yes. This, along with his left-wing politics, has turned him into a media darling. Notice that all of the media’s recent take-downs of derelict leadership steer clear of Chicago.
Go here to read the rest. Cupich is the perfect symbol of this pontificate. A deservedly obscure prelate whose only distinguishing feature was a fondness for Leftism, after Pope Francis was elected the man and the hour met.
At the February conference he will do all in his power to protect his master at the Vatican, his role as a shepherd be damned.
Then the angel said to me, “Write this:
Blessed are those who have been called
to the wedding feast of the Lamb.”
Some will arrive at the wedding, however they will not gain entrance. The attire they had fashioned while they lived on earth isn’t suitable for the wedding feast of the Lamb.
The Lavender Mafia is doomed.
The Scripture reading from the Liturgy of the Hours for yesterday, Thursday, in the 34th Week of Ordinary Time applies. Buckle up , Cupich and Bergoglio, for the 1st Pope of the Church is speaking and your day is coming!
2nd Peter 2:9-22
The Lord can rescue the good from the ordeal, and hold the wicked for their punishment until the day of Judgement, especially those who are governed by their corrupt bodily desires and have no respect for authority.
Such self-willed people with no reverence are not afraid of offending against the glorious ones, but the angels in their greater strength and power make no complaint or accusation against them in front of the Lord. All the same, these people who only insult anything that they do not understand are not reasoning beings, but simply animals born to be caught and killed, and they will quite certainly destroy themselves by their own work of destruction, and get their reward of evil for the evil that they do. They are unsightly blots on your society: men whose only object is dissipation all day long, and they amuse themselves deceiving you even when they are your guests at a meal; with their eyes always looking for adultery; men with an infinite capacity for sinning, they will seduce any soul which is at all unstable. Greed is the one lesson their minds have learnt. They are under a curse. They have left the right path and wandered off to follow the path of Balaam son of Beor, who thought he could profit best by sinning, until he was called to order for his faults. The dumb donkey put a stop to that prophet’s madness when it talked like a man. People like this are dried-up rivers, fogs swirling in the wind, and the dark underworld is the place reserved for them. With their high-flown talk, which is all hollow, they tempt back the ones who have only just escaped from paganism, playing on their bodily desires with debaucheries. They may promise freedom but they themselves are slaves, slaves to corruption; because if anyone lets himself be dominated by anything, then he is a slave to it; and anyone who has escaped the pollution of the world once by coming to know our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, and who then allows himself to be entangled by it a second time and mastered, will end up in a worse state than he began in. It would even have been better for him never to have learnt the way of holiness, than to know it and afterwards desert the holy rule that was entrusted to him. What he has done is exactly as the proverb rightly says: The dog goes back to his own vomit and: When the sow has been washed, it wallows in the mud.
“his role as a shepherd be damned.”
His role is to shepherd the flock over the wide cliff into the fire.
Shepherd? Shepherd!? What are you? Some kind of rigid radtrad nut? Language like that isn’t open to the world. It’s not welcoming.
Not shepherd over the cliff. Accompany over the cliff.
Get your buzzwords right!

Oh the wisdom that Pope Francis could pass along to St. Peter if only Francis had the chance.
Well if Christ could put Judas in charge of the money and that guy eventually played a role in bringing about salvation, maybe putting Cupich in charge of the moral corruption might have a similarly good outcome? Then again, the quickest way to solve all this is for a lot of folks to turn into pillars of salt.
