I also got the election wrong, but my political prognostications are always the musings of an amateur, while Rove’s musings give him national attention. Like much associated with Bush the Younger, he is of a rapidly receding past.

I think the population of the country has fundamentally changed. First, today’s immigration has given us a whole set of people with different values and cultures from those of European immigrants in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Second, the schools and news media have been liberal progressive Democrat for perhaps more than a half century now, programming our youth to disregard Christian values and embrace atheistic socialism. Third, the Institutional Church has culpability, too: we have had a decade and a half of heterodoxy from Saint Peter’s Throne where environmentalism, sentimentaility disguised as charity, and socialism disguised as social justice have been preacched and pontificated. The voter is now only too happy to exchange his brithright for a bowl of porridge.
One last thing: the Psalmist tells us not to put our trust in princes, and that’s what we did with Trump. Now behold the consequences. That Texas and South Carolina have gone the way of leftism bodes nothing but ill for the country, and no, I don’t think we can recover from this. Sorry, Donald. But the Democrats will now destroy the Republic. I pray that I am wrong, but unless God intervenes, I see no way out.
Doomerism is always a dead end Paul, as well as being ahistoric in reference to this country and its elections. This Republic will endure long after everyone living today is dust.
