Go here to read the comments of Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the Archdiocese for the US military. I have no doubt that the practical impact of this will be nil, as I imagine several hundred thousand troops, many of them Catholic, would gladly volunteer for serving on the firing squad. The Archbishop has been pretty good from my point of view on most issues during his tenure which began in 2007. For example during the Covid hysteria he provided support to the troops who opposed getting the jab on conscientious grounds. Here, however, he would have been wiser to recall this admonition of Christ:
Troops who have moral scruples about being on a firing squad should be accommodated. Telling Catholic soldiers that they should have moral scruples simply because the execution might be live streamed crosses a line I think between the roles of Caesar and Christ.
