Who would have predicted this development in 1945? MacArthur perhaps, but no one else comes to mind.

The fiercest foreign enemy the U.S. has ever faced in war celebrating our independence. We definitely had to work for it. We firebombed 64 of their cities and nuked two of them.
I certainly could be wrong but, I think to some degree some Japanese may feel shame about what happened in World War II. It’s not hard to determine who dropped the first blow unless you accept the premise that sanctions are an act of War. We could learn a thing or two from the Japanese who culturally understand the importance of Shame. The combination of my truth your truth and if it feels good do it have completely eroded our culture or understanding of the importance of Shame. They accept cultural norms. We don’t anymore.
Make shame great again.
A clear test and example of the necessity to forgive. It does not mean forget because, if it did, it would be more often repeated.
Having worked with the Japanese military in the US and having visited Japan on several occasions I think the culture does have a sense of shame, which is not to be confused with losing face. Also the pagan culture does not think the same way our Christian does. Forgive but not forget is so true.
