Chesterton’s point also. He extends the idea in an essay called (I think) “The Pub and the Club” to an ordinary neighborhood vs an “intentional community”.

Chesterton says this about neighbors and relatives: there’s a reason the great religions don’t preach loving humanity. That’s too broad and abstract. It’s the people who accidentally enter our lives, either by moving next door or being born into our family, that make love so challenging and enriching.
