He has hated his own country since he protested with Italian communists in the early 1980s against Ronald Reagan’s response to the Soviet installation of SS-20 intermediate range nuclear armed ballistic missiles in Eastern Europe. He never protested against the communist aggression that necessitated Reagan to order the installation of Pershing missiles as a deterrent in Western Europe. As Eugene Sledge said, war is brutish and a terrible waste. I don’t think any intelligent person of goodwill would disagree. But what never gets addressed by the Church hierarchy, in all their hand wringing, is the very evil that makes war necessary.
Yep. Another quote by Sledge explains why wars are sometimes necessary:

I believe that, going forward I’ll be ignoring Francis II’s writings. After all, I’ve made it this far without having read Clement XIV’s encyclical Decet Quam Maxime, and I’m no worse for wear. In fact, I think ignoring all of Francis II’s bloviations is probably to my spiritual benefit, sad to say.
