It’s On

Sad, but unsurprising. Trump is not one to sit in silence while being attacked and it is hard not to conclude that Leo has nothing but disdain for him.  I was happy when I head that an American was chosen as Pope.  I should have known better.  More from Trump on the Pope:

Tonight Trump handed the Democrats a sword that they will use against him and Republicans for years.  Mean tweets is one thing;  this is simple madness.

I usually agree with a lot of Damian Thompson’s takes on news in the Church, but not in this case. President Trump’s laundry list of things our Pope is bungling isn’t an “attack”, it’s just a recitation of unvarnished truths. And if the truth makes some parties uncomfortable, that’s their problem, not the messenger’s.

I agree with you, Donald, insofar as I’d rather Trump waited until after these upcoming midterm elections to lob incendiaries at Pope Leo.

At any rate, if this Pope elects to visit the US during this administration, it would be fascinating to be a fly on the wall when (if) he and the President meet in private…

It is shocking, no holds barred, uncouth, unprecedented (at least in recent centuries) but I
Need To Ask…

“Is the President statement in any respect an utterance of falsehood(s)?”

I agree with what Trump wrote, but I wish he had not written it. Both he and Pope Leo XIV should be more circumspect in public. But Leo started it. He goaded Trump and I think he intended to do that. He’s nothing other than a smarter and nicer version of his heretical predecessor.
