“they treat the holy father’s words as if they’re just another opinion..”
Yes, because that is what happens when you speak out of your competence and dismiss/ignore/are-ashamed-of the Competence of the Holy Spirit’s Guidance for over two millennia..Clarity of which is Your Actual Job..
The Pope has been saying blatantly false things about war and God. The fact is that God gave the Israelites precise direction in Deuteronomy 20 about going to war, and some of the principles enumerated there would still apply to any Christian nation today going to war. But then detractors say that Deuteronomy is the Old Covenant and we’re under the New, one of peace and love, as though somehow the character and justice and righteousness of God have changed. But if they are correct, then why did Popes (obviously under the New Covenant) authorize the Crusades to protect Christians from Muslim aggression in the Holy Land? Why did Popes bless European fighting forces at the Battle of Lepanto and the Battle of Vienna? Why was it acceptable for King Ferdinand and Queen Isabel to fight against the Muslim Moors and drive them from Spain, but it is unacceptable for Trump and Netanyahu to do the same for the Iranian people: to drive the Shiite terrorist tyrants from power?
Robert Prevost – Francis II otherwise known as Pope Leo XIV – is (to repeat myself) a Democrat from Chicago whose political ideology overrides anything that he knows about either Sacred Scripture of Church History. Trump Derangement Syndrome is apparently a mental defect or disease affecting even the highest in Ecclesial power.
I’d be interested to hear this Fr. Krupp’s defense of a Pope, being questioned on a matter of morality, responding with “Who am I to judge?”.
Clinton brings up a valid point. Prevost and Bergoglio before him will happily judge Donald Trump for waging war against a terrorist dictatorship, but would never judge a pro-sodomite like Father James Martin or a pro-abortionist like Governor JB Pritzker. Don’t you dare tell me I got to pay any heed to what the Pope says about the moraility of the war in Iran when he can’t speak out about the immorality of homo-erotic clergy like Father James Martin and pro-abortion politicians like Governor Pritzker. I hate hypocrisy.
It would be interesting to see what Fr. Krupp’s position on Papal opinion was back when B16 was Pope.
