There is a danger here. Hegseth believes that the Old Covenant (which ended with Christ) is in parallel with the new Covenant of Baptism and the Holy Spirit.
That’s False, and dangerous.
While David S is right about the implications and ramifications of Scofield eschatology embraced by adherents of Protestant fundamentalism (like Ambassador Huckabee), I still think deposing the tyannical mad mullahs from power over the Iranian people, preventing future Shiite terrorist attacks, and avenging the 1979 hostage crisis are noble causes.
Would like to upvote LQC, but Hal said no!
Well, the Secretary of War is more right on matters of war than on matters of theology, and the Pope is more right on matters of theology than on matters of war, so that’s not a bad thing, I guess.
“the Secretary of War is more right on matters of war than on matters of theology, and the Pope is more right on matters of theology than on matters of war..”
I don’t think the pope we have at the moment believes for one second what I say above.. but no matter… That is what the Fathers and the Church have always Taught.
“After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
It has been an honor serving under
@POTUS
and
@DNIGabbard
and leading the professionals at NCTC.
May God bless America.

Joe the Leaker is gone? Probably just before he was pushed. Trump made the mistake of taking him into government after he lost a solid Republican seat twice. The man is toxic.
Don’t know Kent nor the history here. Do know that he’s not the first to resign over the same reason, and it appears the group running the “war” believe in a dual Covenant, which is False.
The attempt to attack the war against the evil mullahs ruling Iran on pseudo religious nonsense is beneath contempt. Antisemitism is the oldest hate and it will not be allowed on this blog.
Don,
I’m not being antisemitic.
“The Catholic Church officially rejects dual-covenant theology, which posits that the Jewish people can be saved through the Mosaic covenant alone without faith in Jesus Christ. While affirming that God’s covenant with the Jewish people is irrevocable, the Church teaches that salvation for all, including Jews, comes only through Jesus Christ, who fulfills the Old Covenant. “
There are a lot of questionable assumptions here. It’s possible to support Israel and/or the US over Iran without supporting dual-covenant theology. It’s possible to disagree with Israel’s and/or the US’s actions against Iran without being anti-Semitic.
The attempt to claim that this war has anything to do with the nonsense spewed by some antisemites is, and it will not be tolerated on this blog. This does not happen in a vacuum. Antisemites are more active now than I can recall during my life and they seize upon the War with Iran to spread their poison. This is evil and must be fought against.
It’s possible to disagree with Israel’s and/or the US’s actions against Iran without being anti-Semitic.
Possible yes, but they often seem to stroll hand in hand.
Don:
My rule of thumb is to look at some of the Israeli newspapers and note the dialogue. Bibi is not universally loved and many on the Israeli left and center have a problem with his policies, including treatment of the Palestinians. Presuming Jews would not be antisemitic, criticizing policies or politicians as the Israelis do themselves (wisely or unwisely) can hardly be antisemitic.
IMO American Leftists turned on the Jews after the 60s when (1) they became wealthy and successful and belied a long standing Leftist mythology about European Jews and socialism and (2) balked at supporting affirmative action, after dealing with it trying to get their sons into the Ivy League since the 20s. Leftists are always clueless and astounded when people put their own survival and prosperity above “ideas”.
Why some on the Right have gone that way is more mysterious: perhaps frustration with recent immigration disasters has reactivated old WASP viruses (like old chicken pox infections reappearing as shingles).
Presuming Jews would not be antisemitic, criticizing policies or politicians as the Israelis do themselves (wisely or unwisely) can hardly be antisemitic.
As David Ben-Gurion said, after noting all the factions into which the Jews were divided into just prior to their War for Independence, “We could have a nice little war among ourselves without the Arabs!”
Nothing wrong with criticism of any government, and I do it all the time as faithful readers of this blog know. That is not what is involved as to the current onslaught against Israel. The virulent hate directed against the Jews is unbelievable, and too many Catholics have bought into the lie that because of their Catholicism they cannot support Israel.
In regard to Iran, we are involved in this war to remove, or render harmless, a regime that has been at war with us since November 4, 1979. Finally, finally, we are fighting back.
Anyone who says that this is a ‘new’ war is an ignoramus who knows no history.
