Hawkins, like Sagan and my rocket scientist ex, were/are are Very Bright People who became mentally frozen as 15-year-olds who have just discovered that they are Very Bright People. Most of us eventually learn that, if you bask too long in your own brilliance, you get burned.
So, the atheist says to God: “I do not believe in God.” and God says to the atheist: “I believe in you.”
