President Trump has done what Jimmy Worthless Carter failed to do. I remember when the Iranian hostage crisis occurred in 1979 while I was in the Navy. Many of us on my old submarine were ashamed at the pusillanimous weakness of our Commander-in-Chief. We had missiles ready, but no order came. Thankfully now the Ayatalloh joins Carter in death, a fitting end, God willing.

It’s also sobering to realize that no one under the age of 50 would have any memory of Iran before the ayatollahs, or of the hostage crisis (I was in high school at the time), and that would include Iranians themselves. The Crown Prince of the Pahalvi family was 18 when his father left Iran; he’s now 65. But he’s probably the only figure with the ability to pick up the pieces and make Iran great again…

“Many of us on my old submarine were ashamed at the pusillanimous weakness of our Commander-in-Chief.”

Amen. Those were tough days for everyone.
Add in Carter’s silly promotion of national law of driving 55 on the highway to “supposedly” save fuel. Argh.

Regarding Elaine’s comment that no one under 50 would have any memory of Iran before the Islamic revolution:
I went to college at Southeast Missouri State University in the early 1970s. I met a group of Iranian students there.I have no idea how Iranians decided to come to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, They were not very observant Muslims. They were very well off and had apartments off campus. After the Shah was deposed I often wondered what became of them. If they were back in Iran I suspect it was not a good time for them.

Elaine:
His wife (a senior in my chemistry classes 1985-6) was also 18. A sweet, quiet kid, with no shortage of friends.
George:
We had many Iranian at USF when the Shah fell, who were alarmed at who took over. “The Shah was bad.” one fellow chem grad said to me, “but these guys will be worse. Just watch.” When the US hostages were taken, they took up a petition (I saw the handwritten version on legal pad), denouncing the action, with several pages of names.
