Trump’s Right Hand Man

In his first term President Trump was handicapped by the fact that he was often a one man band.  He has been better served during his second term, and nowhere is that more the case than with Secretary of State Rubio.  He sees Trump’s goal of taking down our adversaries with a minimum of military force and is a skillful advocate of the better and more peaceful world that Trump is attempting to bring about.  The memes that show endless new jobs for Marco accurately underline how important he is to Trump.  Let us hope we can soon add to his list of jobs President of Cuba and Shah of Iran.

I have been pleasantly surprised by Rubio’s outstanding performance at State. I always liked him, and before the Trump juggernaut rolled through the 2016 primaries, I supported Rubio for the top job, followed closely by Ted Cruz. He makes a perfect counterpoint to Trump’s blustery style.

It will be fascinating to see where he ends up in the 2028 derby, but the present show is pretty good, too.

I’ve said Trump lays Vance and Rubio like his knights in a game of chess. The toughest pieces to keep track of, and if you’re not careful, they can blindside you. Same here. They come out of nowhere and their opponents don’t seem to know what to do. I note the press has largely stopped trying to have ambush interviews with them.

I was not impressed with Rubio as a senator. But his performance as Secretary of State has been stellar.

Don’t forget, JD Vance, who is starting to look like the best vice-president the country has ever had.

I don’t know if Vance and Rubio would work well together … Vance may be too isolationist for Rubio.

CAG:
I don’t think Vance is a Buchananite, who believes we can go on as if the rest of the world doesn’t exist. He strikes me as many a working-class conservative (like me) who gets tired of the snottiness of the Europhile left and neocon right about America’s role in the world taking precedence over its role to Americans: to their security and their prosperity first. I’ll be a good neighbor because I need good neighbors (in part because of the inevitable bad neighbors), but my family comes first. Rubio’s vision is a little wider than Vance’s, but they seem more along a continuum. I think Vance casts a wider eye than his often gruff language betrays.
