The population are too selfish to acknowledge kindness.
Problem for me these days at my age, people are holding the door open for me.

As St. Paul would put it: it is to the spiritual benefit of the “thanker” that he acknowledge the service.
However, it is to my benefit when I do His works without receiving thanks.
The people who don’t acknowledge makes me appreciate the people who do take a moment to thank me. I also make it a point to thank anyone holding open the door for me, especially if the person is a child.
