Too Nasty Perhaps?

I don’t wish anyone to go to Hell, but I suspect many Jesuits since World War II have been on the downward path.  I recall speaking to a priest of the sixties generation about 15 years ago, a man probably of liberal political attachments.  He spent some time with Jesuits in the sixties, and said their main preoccupations seemed to be watching TV and drinking whisky.  Boredom and laziness I have always thought gives the Devil an excellent opening into the human soul.

Not good, but I’m a Jack Benny fan, so I understand sometimes a straight line is too good to pass up.

I’m not a big fan of Pope Francis; yes he did a lot of strange and hurtful things, but he also did do a lot of good during his pontificate. Just to name two: The Year of Mercy and his letter on St. Joseph. In fact, I think his St. Joseph letter was one of the factors that has led to an upsurge in devotion to St. Joseph that we’re seeing.

There will be a lot of books written on Pope Francis, his reign was so different from what went on before him. I continue to pray for him, especially during this month.

Matthew,
Read “Trojan Horse in the Catholic Church”.

Interesting (and depressing) book. For sodomy to be accepted, and that’s the goal, the apostolic hierarchy must be dismantled by (and/or silenced) by synodality, natural law, scripture & doctrine must be “revisited” in “these times” and anyone “rigid” against sodomy is to be portrayed as bad that would include Moses, St. Paul, Jesus…
Individual conscience must rule, the notion of intrinsic evil must be dismissed…

This is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

I’m left thinking Francis is in hell -but I don’t know that.

Francis is gone and is not coming back.
The Jesuits at BC in the 70s tried to dilute my Catholic faith into mush.
They failed. TBTG.

Sean- TBTG indeed!

As I have often asked my children, how many times does a lie need to be repeated to become truth? The answer, of course, is not expressible numerically, or theologically 😁

Ah, I should have specified that the answer cannot *correctly* be expressed numerically.

Strange that we had Huxley and Orwell and Fr Benson and any number of prescient people predicting the morass in which we live. Yet here we are, as if the pit falls were cleverly concealed from everyone.

Ditto, David WS.

I have kept in touch with a few “old school” Jesuits since college and post grad, and those who adhere to the older [“what the Church always taught, always, everywhere”] traditions and the 3 vows now go through a continual daily Purgatory.

The daily spiritual combat they have to go through as they cling to their priestly calling and vocation is a horror story. One accomplished Jesuit teaching at a well-known university commented, “If I didn’t have my daily Mass, I don’t know what I would do” (i.e., the daily torture of living with other hostile Jesuits). The plaintive way in which he said it was enough to move a heart of stone.

I don’t know what God‘s plan is for the Jesuits and much of the Church’s [often useless , if not downright destructive] hierarchy.

But we do know this much on good authority: “Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked; for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap.” -Gal. 6:7
