It has become a playground for the worst tyrannies on Earth and woke Leftists. The term United Nations originally referred to the Allies in World War II. Time to rid ourselves of this 80 year old anachronism.
Get the UN Out of the US

I agree. The only thing I think the UN is good for is UNESCO Heritage listing of historic sites. They generally do a good job of preserving history. Other than that. Honestly, it’s been completely useless in “Uniting Nations”.
The conceit is that nations can be “united” in any meaningful sense which share nothing in common in worldview. It tries to have Christendom without either Christ or kingdoms. The UN thus exists as a monument to liberalism’s failure and is the decaying corpse of the post world war 2 order. As king Louis says in Becket: “crowned heads are free to play the little game of courtesy, but nations owe one another nothing.”
Fair point. We live in an age where countries possess nuclear arms. If it’s not called United Nations, the idea of a world body where nations “unite” is necessary. No nation is an island unto themselves. Globalisation and technology has changed the landscape.
There’s the UN and there are affiliated agencies you can join without being a member of the UN. There might be about three dozen international agencies (some UN affiliated, some not) we might consider joining. It was clear by 1975 that the UN itself was merely a manifestation of the poison in the political classes of the world. The only reason to stay as we speak is to counter-act Chinese mischief.

One reason to dislike Jimmy Carter retrospectively is the was quite at home with the kurltursmog of the international conference set.
“Trick or Treat for UNICEF” My children did and later we learned that the money went to buy guns for whom, they did not say.
Agree with all here. I am not sure if the UN ever did any real good in terms of diplomacy or “peacekeeping.” In any case, the General Assembly’s fawning over the murderous terrorist Yasser Arafat was the final proof, for me at least, that the organization itself had become a bigger problem than the ones it was intended to solve.
As a place for sovereign countries to meet, discuss, and negotiate as it was (mostly) in the beginning, okay…
As a body outside of sovereign countries seeking to compel sovereign countries to act against their own interests, hard pass.
An empty chair is like an empty mind; nothing of importance has been placed in it.
The UN has also been dogged not only with allegations of large-scale involvement of its peacekeeping forces in human trafficking—and especially child trafficking— but also in the coverup of those abuses. Google “UN peacekeepers trafficking” and prepare to be appalled.
Art Deco:
Jimmy Carter before being inaugurated as president sold the USA out by signing onto the Tri Lateral Commission.
Not really germaine to the discussion, but many years ago, a friend gave my wife and me a tour of the UN. In the General Assembly, we discovered that representatives of Poland and the Philippines sat next to each other. Being of Polish descent and my wife being a Filipina, it made a nice picture for the Christmas card. Other than that, the U.N. . . not very useful, and often quite dangerous.
