How Deep the Rot Had Penetrated

It calls to mind this quote attributed to Winston Churchill when he was First Lord of the Admiralty prior to World War I, and some admirals were opposing his efforts to modernize the Royal Navy:

One of them accused him of having impugned the traditions of the Royal Navy, provoking the reply: ‘And what are they? They are rum, sodomy and the lash’.

Churchill denied having said it, but said he wished he had.

“Churchill denied having said it, but said he wished he had.“

Got to love that guy. I’ve been told we’re somehow related on my father’s side. Don’t know the details. No matter. Everyone’s related.

I’ve got to admit that I’m in favor of two out of the three of those Royal Navy traditions!
BTW, the third was, by the Articles of War, punishable by death.
