I have heard it said that ninety percent of attorneys give the remaining ten percent a bad name. Classic example above. What I find hilarious is that the cop gave the attorney and her fellow drunk an opportunity to walk away from a trespass charge, and the attorney was too much of an entitled female dog to simply scram. Instead she tried to feed the cop a load of legal BS that he was too smart to swallow. So she and her buddy got arrested and she is out of a job. Brilliant performance counselor, simply brilliant.

The quality of human being we produce in this country compares unfavorably to my parents’ contemporaries (b. ca. 1929). It’s more evident among the professional-managerial stratum than elsewhere and, in the last 25 years, it has been more evident among women than among men. One reason things are so fecked in this country is that our population of the affluent, educated, and influential is chock-a-block with people who are trash.

Actually, I do feel sorry for these people who are caught on camera and held up to public ridicule. That’s not to excuse what they did, but drunken behavior is always embarrassing and I wouldn’t wish that kind of worldwide attention on anyone. Another modern development I lament. I’m always thankful I grew up before cell phones.

I had an art teacher in high school who had behind her desk a list of aphorisms. One was ‘things said while drunk have been thought out beforehand’. Liquor is a disinhibitor. It all depends on what you’re containing. My parents in middle age would simply fall asleep if they’d had one too many.

Newport RI is still Navy (though reduced) with associated shore leave, and have their fair share of commercial fishermen and maritime personnel. Long history and tradition there.
