HE was a public notary in the city of Arles and a catechumen at a time when Maximian Herculeus arrived there. An imperial edict against the Christians, which was then in force, was put into his hands to transcribe; but he, rather than concur to such a criminal injustice, threw away his pencil, and secretly left the town in order to hide himself; but he was overtaken, and beheaded on the banks of the Rhone, about the beginning of the fourth century.
