Netanyahu is arming Islamic thugs against Hamas. This just gets from bad to worse. Meanwhile there has been no release of hostages and Hamas is causing destruction by the day.
The only way the Hamas problem truly gets solved is with an interior revolt. The issue is that at this point Gaza = Hamas and Hamas = Gaza, and any attempt to separate the two (if polling among the residents of Gaza is worth anything) is an exercise in obtusity.
Israel is going to have to go full “Rome on Carthage” mode – salt the earth, etc. because that’s the only option they have now.
Look how it worked out years later in Afghanistan when Al Qaeda was armed by the west to fight the Soviets. Netanyahu has the means to fight a targeted and covert military war in Gaza like he did in Lebanon against Hezbollah. Rome on Carthage will cause further collateral death to women and children. It’s not weakening Hamas at all. I have a feeling Netanyahu wants a long and cruel strategy so he wipes out Gazans for good and it burns in the memories of those who miraculously survive it. I don’t think he cares about the hostages. He could finish Hamas if he wanted. He doesn’t want to.
Well you can vote down my criticism of Netanyahu, but it’s an opinion held by the hostages families. And by the majority of Israelis. Netanyahu has failed. His assault has failed. He is a recycled, corrupt politician who used the weakness of his predecessors to win favour through false promises. He is a fraud.
Why do you suppose Gazans support Hamas? Follow the money. Hamas reward civilians financially. Hezbollah had civilian support in South of Lebanon because Hezbollah were paying them for their loyalty. Everyone knew that. That’s why they were strong as a political party. They had Aoun, the previous Christian President in their pocket. If Netanyahu had half a brain he would end the war, retrieve the hostages and push Hamas out gradually by economically supporting Gazans to not be reliant on Hamas.

Al Qaeda did not exist at that time. The Taliban emerged after the Soviets had withdrawn and ejected our clients from the capital in 1996.

With regard to the Arabs on the West Bank, Gaza, and the UNRWA dole, there is no solution. There is merely security. They have spent a century refusing to entertain constructive objects and develop the opportunities that they had. You can see the results. Idiots in the occident who succor these people are doing no one any favors.

I understand your point. I regret it’s not that simple.. Netanyahu can’t simply direct hostages be rescued and end the war … rescue requires knowing where hostages are, only confronting their captors. Remember what happened when Clinton directed troops to capture a Somali warlord in the 90s? Instead of merely capturing one man, they had a two-day battle during which Somalis shot down two helicopters and killed 18 American troops.
Netanyahu could have ended the Gaza fight quickly. He could’ve directed troops drive into the area, shoot anything that moved, raze every building. ..At best, he would’ve been driven out of office within a week over alleged war crimes.
There will be peace in Gaza–or the West Bank–when those who reside there decide they’ve had enough of fighting.

Well, your statement is absolutely ridiculous. There is all kinds of military footage on line about what the Israelis have done in this regard. I’m not sure why you are mocking toward Jewish stories like David/his sling shot in your comments. You seem to be repeating propaganda.
