The sight of an unidentified baby in an incubator at the St. Louis World’s Fair (1904) inspired L.Frank Baum of Oz fame to create the character of Chick the Cherub, a spirited sidekick to John Dough the Gingerbread Man. Chick’s gender was never disclosed (not not- binary; just never disclosed, like the kid in the incubator).
