None of us can ever imagine the plans God has for us. I have learned that when life seems grim with everything falling apart, a few years later, we can see His hand guiding us – away from a bad situation perhaps, and on to a better life.
Surely our good Pope Leo could never begin to dream of the path his life eventually took. He probably thought, at the time this photo was taken, that this was the highlight of his life – to assist at Mass with the Pope. He would only learn later that he had been side-by-side at Mass with a future saint, and that he himself would become the first American and Peruvian pope (which is something I am still wrapping around my head!)
St. John Paul pray for us, and God bless and protect our good Pope Leo!
