Don’t Forget About the Superpowers

News that I missed, courtesy of The Babylon Bee:

LOS ANGELES, CA — In an unexpected twist for the Hollywood movie industry, director James Gunn proudly released a film about the importance of accepting morally upstanding white immigrants who speak perfect English.

The film, an inspiring tale about a white immigrant who comes to the United States as a young boy and grows up to become a law-abiding citizen who stands up for strong American values in the face of rampant lawlessness, was set to premiere to worldwide audiences this weekend.

“It’s the kind of story the world needs right now,” Gunn told journalists at the film’s red carpet premiere. “I really wanted to capture how important it is for our society in America to prioritize allowing immigrants into the country who will immerse themselves in our culture, learn English, and stand up for our laws. It’s the perfect movie for the new American Golden Age.”

Early reviews for the film raved about its positive depiction of what can happen when immigrants do things the right way. “If all immigrants would follow this path, things would be so much easier in this country,” said one critic. “James Gunn paints a beautiful picture of what can happen when someone from another place comes to America, learns to speak English, gets a job, pays their taxes, and assimilates into the American way of life. Take notes, immigrants. This is how you do it.”

Go here to read the rest.  Superman was a paean to middle America small town values.  There was always more of Kansas, courtesy of Ma and Pa Kent, than of Krypton about him.

If there were no subtitles on the video, I wouldn’t know what the monologue was. The music is too loud.

Going to take 2 of the kids and watch this tomorrow night. I was glued to the Christopher Reeves movies as a child. Part 2 with the 3 villains was the best of them all. Watching them back as an adult I realised the story of Superman is an allegorical retelling of God sending His only Son, Jesus Christ, down to earth to save mankind. I hope this new movie version is good.

Definitely Messianic (The only son of the house of El … ‘El’ being Hebrew for ‘God’) . His given name; “Kal El” means Vessel of God or Voice of God in Hebrew. His father “Jor El” means God will enlighten in Hebrew.

But maybe not Jesus. Superman was originally written by a Jewish guy named Jerry Siegel.

But, maybe Jesus … Here’s a tidbit I’m fond of: Who is the arch enemy of the only Son of El? Lex Luthor … Latin for the Law of Luther! Take that Lutherans! 😀

CAG: El also makes up part of the Hebrew word Elohim which is used to refer to God. I’ve heard that this word can also be translated as power and judge. God as a power and God as a judge. In pagan religions gods can represent powers, like the powers of nature. Judges can wield worldly powers. That was what God was doing with Moses and the ten plagues of Egypt. Demonstrating God’s power over all the pagan gods of Egypt. The commandment about not worshiping other gods is about not placing any power, idols or worldly powers, above that of God.

GregB:

And El Shaddai means God Almighty.

The Canaanites (and Arabs today) used ‘Al” … As in “Ba’al”

I saw a video presentation by a rabbi where he goes through an explanation of the names of God. This was part of a larger presentation on the Exodus and the Ten Plaques of Egypt. The original videos are no longer available, but there is a downloadable PDF online that covers the material:
*
https://staff.ncsy.org/education/education/education/education/material/C8HxYivMlL/exodus-from-egypt:-the-hidden-agenda/

The names of God starts on page 6 of the PDF. The PDF has Biblical verse excerpts in the original Hebrew alphabet. He says that YHVH in the original language is an amalgam of the three Hebrew words for existence. In the PDF it says that: ‘It describes his essence. The Hebrew words for existence are “Haya”, “Yiheeyeh”, and “Hoveh” Was, Will be, and Is. If you take these words and overlay it with each other, you will get “Yud-Kay- and Vuv-Kay”. We are talking about a simultaneous existence. It is experiencing time in another way we cannot imagine. It exists but not in this world. It exists outside of time, outside of our world, outside of our universe.’
*
The PDF also says: ‘What does “Kel” mean? It means “to” and it also means power. We see this by Lavan when he says “I have it in me to do evil to you”. “Elokim” means judges, we find the weird commandment- not to have other gods in front of you, it means powerful beings, other levels of authority, an example would be the sun itself, as one knows it is very powerful. We also view God’s names as different types of traits. Elokim would signify God as judge, as a power.’
*
Kel-Shakei (El Shaddai) was another name of God that was covered in the PDF that says: ‘What about the other names? Shaki, what does this mean? Any other words in the Hebrew language which seem similar? The Medresh tells us that it is a contraction for a serious of words “She-amer liolamo die”, he said to his world “enough”. What does that mean? Not so sure we do know. There was a development in the world in creation and God said at a point that it was enough’
*
The PDF goes on to discuss God as Creator and God as Love.
