Sex gets all the headlines, but the financial corruption is usually at the heart of most Church scandals. Christ condemned the love of money as the root of all evil because He understood that in all places and times the besetting sin of the clergy is ever the worship of Mammon.

To be called least in the Kingdom of God is a high bar for many a McCarrick in this Body of Christ. Eternity seems to be a lost concept for the money handlers who imatate Judas rather that imatate the Christ.
Realizing that the beam in my own eye is interferring with my “insight,” I would add one more thing. If any one good thing comes from Pope Leo the XIV pontificate, may it be the complete demolishing of the Lavender Mafia. How and when are the two mysteries that might not be known until after my death.
That’s ok. God’s timing. Mercy and Justice.
May His Justice clean His House and may Our Hearts be cleasned as well.
Then there is the entirely plausible story from Archdiocese of NY about how the priests retirement money was discovered to be no longer there and they had to start again from scratch.
Wicked bishop, or wicked staff? Nobody who knows says.
Considering what I have seen of diocesan workers, I wonder how many of these layoffs are actually a net benefit to the people of the diocese.
Well, a lot of that $50m might have been spent as hush money, I know Wuerl was receiving a 7-figure stipend as recently as last year for “continuing ministry activities” …
Michael Voris has forefeited much, if not all, of his credibility. He used to go off on the dioceses and their financial shenanigans. They should all be audited by a Big 4 CPA firm, both operational and financial audits. The Holy Father can mandate this.
PF – anytime a good clergy tried this, they got rid of him. We cannot forget what they did to the good Cardinal Pell. Evil is so deeply ingrained in the Church governance, it’s going to take a few good consecutive Popes to wash it out. I have faith Pope Leo will start in a quiet way.
Did not Archbishop Vigano clean up a Vatican bank problem? He also vocal about homosexuals in the clergy. I don’t even know if he is still alive
Ezabelle, having spent an adult lifetime in financial reporting, external auditors have to be retained to examine the books of the US dioceses and the Vatican. Nobody can do to PriceWaterhouse Coopers what was done to Cardinal Pell. Any attempt to limit access should be met with immediate termination. That will cause a lot of resignations and retirements.
Pell brought in PWC for the financial audit and they were fired before the audit was completed under Becciu instructions who was Secretariat of State. Becciu ended up being convicted of financial embezzlement, fraud and other charges. He even had the nerve to insist on sitting in on the 2025 Conclave (Parolin had the good sense to deny it).
On record, none of the big four have ever been brought in to complete an independent external financial audit. No external audit process has ever been put into play. PF set up an internal Office of Auditor General in 2014 which is an internal body that audits the Vatican finances and is the only method of checking the Vatican finances. Who is auditing the Office of the Auditor General? Hmmm
