Thought For the Day

See, I am not a fool with thousands of books I will never read!  Instead, I am a practitioner of the ancient Japanese art of Tsundoku!

Note to myself:
“Purchasing a book alone does not automatically impart the knowledge it contains”.

I was at a lecture by Joseph Pierce. He commented on purchasing and not reading books. To someone who asked if he had read a certain book, he would reply, “Read it! I own it!

Add me in.

I recently had to displace all the books in my study for some home renovation to discover that I had bought at least three books twice. The Story of a Soul, Ralph Martin’s book on the Fulfillment of all Desire and Scott Hahn’s book Reasons to Believe. There’s a Catholic book store right outside of the small Chapel where I attend Mass from time to time. I never leave that bookstore without having at least two new books. Some twice obviously.

Of those three, the only one that I haven’t read is Ralph Martin’s book which is somewhat hard to get through. There’s a lot of other ones in my library I still haven’t read.

If only my stacks of books were aesthetically pleasing! They have a tendency to cascade around here.

I wonder if there’s a similar word for collecting exercise equipment I’ll never use?

I have every intention of reading all these books I’ve collected … Provided God grants me time enough 🙂

Tsundoku.

So *that’s* the word my wife is muttering under her breath when she sees my stacks of books 🤔

Maybe because books are the weapons and armor of the intellect, they really ought to be close at hand instead of locked in an armoury.
