Say It Ain’t So Amy

News that I missed, courtesy of The Babylon Bee:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — According to sources, Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett adopted an MS-13 gang member as a show of support for the much maligned community of violent illegal aliens in threat of swift deportation under President Trump.

Justice Barrett is now welcoming convicted rapist and murderer Jose Ricardo Dominguez into her home. Adoption of the notorious MS-13 member was finalized this week at a private court proceeding attended by her husband and seven other children.

“Sometimes I feel spread a little thin,” Barrett admitted, acknowledging the difficulties of adding a new member to an already large family. “But Jose is a free spirit and I couldn’t bear to see him sent to an El Salvador prison just because he was caught dismembering the corpse of a drug mule who threatened to talk.”

“We all make mistakes,” she added.

The 28-year-old Honduras native said he is grateful for the trust and compassion the Barrett family has placed in him. “The only reason I turned to violence — allegedly — was because of a lack of strong authoritative figures in my life,” the newly re-named Jose Barrett said. “I have finally found where I belong — in the home of an upper class white family.”

This, indeed, is probably one of the Enemy’s motives for creating a dangerous world—a world in which moral issues really come to the point. He sees as well as you do that courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point, which means at the point of highest reality. A chastity or honesty, or mercy, which yields to danger will be chaste or honest or merciful only on conditions. Pilate was merciful till it became risky.

Instead of feeling sorry for Justice Barrett because she and her family are being targeted by threats of violence, I feel disgust and contempt towards her because she has yielded to such pressure. Yes, in similar circumstance what would I do were my grandchildren so threaten because of a public decision I would have to make? We all need to ask ourselves that question and beg God for courage to live up to His moral standards. That’s why Scripture says repeatedly that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom. As orthodox Jew Dennis Prager has described it, when you fear the Lord in that way, then no matter what man may do, you won’t fear him. That’s why in Exodus 1:15-21 the Egyptian midwives Shiphrah and Puah were able to overcome their own fears, defying Pharaoh’s order to save the lives of newly born male babies. Amy Coney Barrett is neither Shiphrah (meaning fair or comely) nor Puah (meaning splendid). Think on that because that’s what cowardice does: it makes one ugly and ordinary, never fair, never splendid. Indeed, Jesus said to the Church at Laodicea, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:15-16.

LCQ,

Apparently her honor doesn’t understand the basic premise of getting more of what is subsidized. Her yielding to threats like this will merely garner the next inch, foot, or mile.

It’s too bad, because I had hoped she would be a solid jurist on the SCOTUS, even if an uninspiring one.
