Our parish did the same last week. It did not happen yesterday, however, so I’m guessing (and yes, hoping) that it did not go over well, especially since many of our parishioners are themselves legal immigrants, or the descendants of same.
Unlike us, the Church is not an attorney. The Church should be saying to illegal aliens that they should comply with the laws of the nation, and that when confronted by the authorities, their response should be Matthew 5: 37: But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.
The Church has a higher mission than helping illegal aliens avoid the consequences of their actions.
It’s nice to see liberals discovering the Bill of Rights. Maybe someday, they will discover there are 10 of them.
Maybe, someday, they will even discover that there are Ten Commandments 🤔
