Pres. Trump’s birthday is June 14 (1946) which is already a commemorative day known as Flag Day. I would think the man himself would rather Americans celebrated Flag Day.
Good catch Elaine!
Lincoln’s and Washington’s Birthdays only, dropping both President’s Day and MLK Jr. Day. No Trump holiday. He’s no Saint.
MLK Jr. Was a terribly immoral “minister” who didn’t believe in the divinity of Christ and of his resurrection.
I learnt recently, through watching a game show (The Chase), don’t know if you have it in the States, that MLK Jnr Day was established by Ronald Reagan in 1983. I found that surprising.
Also, speaking of such the Executive Order Trump signed on Plastic Straws….I mean- the man has common sense in spades. Please let this be a trigger for the world to follow. If there is one thing that has never made sense in the history of mankind it’s the banning of plastic straws and replacing them with paper ones.
The Democrats had been using a national holiday for King as a wedge issue. Reagan was making an outreach politically to Blacks, with some limited success, and he decided to take the issue from the Democrats.

True, but he was also a spokesman for non-violent redress of grievances. It was a century since the Civil War, and the blacks had a fair amount of legitimate complaints.
Thanks Don. Context matters. Racial politics is a rabbit hole.
IMO, federal holidays should begin and end with Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years’, the 4th of July, with a day or two of padding around the first two; you might add Easter Monday or half-days on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. If they fall on a week-end, well that’s the breaks this year. They apply to federal employees bar those who have to attend to contingent emergencies. If they apply to the private sector, it should only be to enterprises which employ people outside the jurisdiction which issued the charter of their parent company. Mandated holidays are the business of state and territorial legislatures, and they should take account of popular culture in mandating them. MLK day was an artifact of politicians. Did not exist on the ground.

The remedies have proved to have side effects we could do without. Piggy-backing on the blacks were a mess of others whose legitimate grievances were of very modest dimension and not always properly addressed through statutory law (much less ‘imaginative’ court decrees).
Fully agree about the Trump holiday.
“If the enemy is an ass and a fool and a prating
coxcomb, is it meet, think you, that we should also, look you, be an ass and a fool and a prating
coxcomb, in your own conscience now?”
Good advice from Shakespeare’s Fluellen (Henry V)
Pretty sure this is called trolling at a very high level.
