One of these days, there will be a last letter, last spontaneous comment, last initiative.
Will there be a better pope after this? What is next for Francis? These questions concern me more.
I commend to all the response to this letter from Rusty Reno at First Things. Rusty really nails it. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

Good article, Frank … Thanks.
I’m liking First Things’ new format too.
If the characterization is accurate, all I can think of is Louis XV’s statement “apres moi le deluge”
He has already referenced Fr Hugh Benson’s Pope John XXIV as his successor. (In Benson’s novel, the second to last pope.)
Of course, working to burn things down was Nero’s M.O. too, and Rome survived a long time after.
Correction: a letter was written bearing the signature of the heretical puppet. Almost certainly, TBO, several “last letters” and perhaps even an apostolic exhortation or four and ex cathedra proclamation on weird sex are already done and signed by the puppet-to be published post mortem. And TBO-hope this does not prove true – better the wearer of papal white we know than the devilsh one we don’t. Guy, Texas
