La Victoire est à Nous (Victory is ours)

 

Something for the weekend.  La Victoire est à Nous (Victory is ours), one of the more stirring French military marches of the Napoleonic era.  The sorry business of war has never worn a more attractive package than in the age of Napoleon, with brilliant uniforms and glorious music.  However, the corpses were just as dead, and all too many of the survivors had their lives shattered by maiming wounds.  As General Lee noted at Malvern Hill:  “It is good that war is so terrible, else we should grow too fond of it.”
