Reconquista Victorious

The Seven Century Crusade.  A complex struggle in which Christians and Moors would sometimes find themselves fighting on the same side, but at the end Spain was Catholic once more.  If the Reconquista had failed, Western Europe might have fallen under the sway of Islam.

The Mohammetan does not belong in the West. Then we knew it. Now we get Bourbon Street blood.

Ave Crux, Spes Unica!

Minor miracle tonight!…I was in the kitchen online translating Phillip’s “Ave Crux. Spes Unica!” when I heard a loud pop and sizzle behind me. I turned around and saw the heater cord was aflame. I quickly unplugged it. All is well. The heater looks like a radiator, no open coil, just radiant heat. Strange.

El Cid is a favorite movie and we as a family recently had spent a week in Cordoba attending Mass in the Cathedral a former mosque; touring the Moorish baths and the Alcazar where Ferdinand and Isabella launched for Granada.
If I hadn’t read the Reconquista post and instead gone to bed our kitchen probably would have burnt down. Maybe even the house as there is a wind storm now and the temps are dropping into the 20s.

“Hail to the Cross. It is our only hope.” A thank you to our guardian angels.

Cam…I know that Latin statement from one source…Isabel of Spain, the Catholic Queen, by the late Warren Carroll. I bought the book at a Catholic bookstore in Manhattan when my wife and I were there in early 2006. I read the book of the first of many times on the train back to BWI Airport Amtrak station.

I later loaned the book to Fr. Dolan, our Latin Mass pastor before the ICKSP came to Pittsburgh. Fr. Dolan died last year so I won’t see that book again, but it is still a great book.

Penquins Fan, I apologize for not giving you credit for “Ave Crux. Spes Unica!”
I have Prof Carroll’s book in my possession. It is on loan from our priest. I need to finish it. I find many out of print books on http://www.abebooks.com.
The Most Catholic Majesties were quite the couple. Servant of God Queen Isabella’s pathway to sainthood has been sidelined, only temporarily I hope.
The Spanish bishops and Pope Francis are working for it to be resumed. Their daughter Queen Catherine of Aragon (Henry VIII’s wife) may also be worthy of sainthood in my opinion.

My son with the Spanish girlfriend tells me that Spain hasn’t had the huge influx from North Africa like the other countries in Europe.

It should be noted that starting with Charles Martel and going to King Ferdinand and Andrea Doria, the only working method of stopping Islamic predations was total victory. Allenby last tried in 1918 was was betrayed by the politicians in their quest for Arab oil. With both Israel and the US under heavy criticism for support of civilization in the Middle East, we are once again at a crisis point and the opposition shows little sign of backing down short of a decisive victory by the West.

D. Link, thanks for the info on Allenby. The British press reported that the Field Marshal after defeating the Ottoman Turks and entering Jerusalem had remarked “only now have the crusades ended.”
