We used to have a sense of humor in this country.

We used to have a sense that what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. But, as Chesterton wrote in The Barbarism of Berlin, one of the defining characteristics of the true barbarian is the Refusal of Reciprocity. In the same work, he wrote

The definition of the true savage does not concern itself even with how much more he hurts strangers or captives than do the other tribes of men. The definition of the true savage is that he laughs when he hurts you; and howls when you hurt him.

If you excuse the joke about Puerto Rico and howl at Biden’s comments, don’t talk about a sense of humor. You are just another barbarian.

Just remember, Folks, that half the country is Democrat, including your neighbors, co-workers, school mates, etc., and that half believes what Joe Biden said.

Back in 2014 when I was working for a different nuclear energy company, a young co-worker (late 20s), knowing I am Catholic by the iconography on my desk, asked me if I realy believed we eat Jesus’ Body and drink His Blood at Holy Communion. I responded with a simple YES. He said that people like me who believe in such things should not be allowed to work in nuclear power. I ignored his reply. But my point is this: half the country is like that and considers us conservative Christians as deplorable, garbage, Nazi, Fascist, etc., and nothing will ever persuade them otherwise. That Joe Biden professes Catholicism is a hypocrisy which they willingly accept.

BTW, Outis has a valid point. Garbage remarks whether left or right are wrong. But truth-telling is right: Democrats are baby-murderers, sodomy-sanctifiers, and transgender child abusers. That said, too many Republicans are country-club hypocrites.

Outis, this is a better blog than most others on the internet, and definitely pro-American and pro-Catholic. Yes, the Puerto Rican joke is probably inappropriate, but even more so is a sitting US President calling half the country garbage. I work with a Puerto Rican man in my job at “Neutrons ‘R Us,” so I would never use such a joke. However, as I understand it, a comedian did. Still, that’s less offensive than what Joe Biden has been consistently doing during his entire time in politics. Perhaps a re-review of his behavior when Clarence Thomas was going through US Senate hearings for his nomination to SCOTUS would be appropriate. The comedian was wrong, but not evil. Biden is both wrong and evil. Therein lies the difference.

I’m trying to maintain perspective even though I haven’t voted Democrat since I was 22. And that was more than five decades ago. As my pastor said in his homily this morning, we need to maintain the perspective that this world is not all that is. We’re headed for a different Kingdom. And part of what he said was no matter who wins next week, our job is to make the Church Great again. It’s not that he dismisses the importance of voting since we’ve had four straight weeks of Sunday homilies on discerning how to vote, but just like some cultures are better than others, some things are more important than others. AMDG!

The “garbage” is all in Biden’s head – literally.

Don, I was wondering the same thing. First, though, I wondered if Biden has enough wits left to do it. Then I recalled how my Dad, in the throes of dementia, developed a capacity for sly craftiness and manipulation that he had never shown in his rational days. So, could be.
