I’ll leave the reading of this well to others, the stream’s source is suspect.
I do have a question though:
Why the need for this encyclical and why now?
“28. It is only by starting from the heart that our communities will succeed in uniting and reconciling differing minds and wills, so that the Spirit can guide us in unity as brothers and sisters. “
Starting from the heart? I thought the starting point was the Deposit of Faith brought to us by the apostles and their successors. Is Francis setting forth the case for situation ethics?
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is devious above all else;
it is perverse—
who can understand it?
—–
That’s all I need to remember, Folks.
Starts off with waffle – the analogies lost me.
“ each person is frequently concealed behind a great deal of “foliage””
“In this “liquid” world of ours..”
“The word “heart” proves its value for philosophy and theology in their efforts to reach an integral synthesis.”
Huh?!
But then gradually it gets better only because…it quotes scripture, St JP2 and Pope Benedict and the Saints and the history of the devotion to the Sacred Heart.
IMHO – Pope Francis is unable to write in a way that transcends the message he is delivering to a religious and secular audience. He needs to “speak” in a more simple way.
His predecessors were able to do this. Particularly StJP2 who was able to “reach” just about anyone with his writings.
