PopeWatch: New Sins

Go here to read the story.  It is as bad as one might expect:

Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, asked forgiveness for “all the times that in the Church, especially us pastors who are entrusted with the task of confirming our brothers and sisters in the faith, have not been able to guard and propose the Gospel as a living source of eternal newness, ‘indoctrinating it’ and risking reducing it to a pile of dead stones to be thrown at others.”

“I beg forgiveness, feeling shame for all the times we have given doctrinal justification to inhuman treatment,” and for efforts to obstruct the “various legitimate inculturations of the truth of Jesus Christ,” he said.

Then the cry of Judas against the ointment used to anoint the feet of Christ is agreed with by a Cardinal:

Cardinal Cristóbal López Romero, archbishop of Rabat asked for forgiveness for the turning of one’s head the other way “in front of the sacrament of the poor, preferring to adorn ourselves and the altar with guilty valuables that steal bread from the hungry.”

New fangled sins at a time when Christian morality, as old as the Cross, is being trampled into the dust.

CS Lewis saw this coming:

The earliest converts were converted by a single historical fact (the Resurrection) and a single theological doctrine (the Redemption) operating on a sense of sin which they already had—and sin, not against some new fancy-dress law produced as a novelty by a “great man”, but against the old, platitudinous, universal moral law which they had been taught by their nurses and mothers.

Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and student of literary genius Hugh Hefner….

( gotta give credit where credit is due )

This makes perfect sense in a new church where hell is fiction, all religions lead to salvation and homosexual love can glorifies God.

no thank you

And I thought that idolatry, dishonoring parents, murdering, theft, bearing false witness, adultery and fornication, and coveting were sins. Silly me!

I think the link is wrong. Try here:

It sounds like a shaming ritual, but it doesn’t look like any of those are “new” sins. It looks like they were:

  • abuse
  • a lack of courage and commitment to peace
  • lack of respect for every human life
  • mistreatment of women or failure to acknowledge their talents and contributions
  • using church teaching as weapons to hurl at others
  • lack of concern for the poor
  • a failure to recognize the dignity and role of every baptized person in the church

If I were ranking them, some are more common or more serious than others, but they’re all reasonable accusations, and no novelties.

It’s never a good idea to use the National catholic Distorter as a reference … That last one should read: “The sin against synodality, the lack of listening, communion, and participation by all

I haven’t seen a single source which references only “… every baptized person in the church“. That would certainly be better.

CAG, I wasn’t paying attention. I just saw NCR and linked to it. The thing for me was that it’s a “new list of sins”, not a “list of new sins”. I make a new list of sins every month (even if it’s repetitive).

Pinky: And I’m saying that not being not being “synodal” with everyone under the sun has never been a sin until 5 minutes ago. Instead, prior to this pontificate, these were definitive teachings of The Church:

“If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him in your house or even greet him;
for whoever greets him shares in his evil works.”
~2 John 1:9-11

“But I now write to you not to associate with anyone named a brother, if he is immoral, greedy, an idolater, a slanderer, a drunkard, or a robber, not even to eat with such a person.”
~1 Corinthians 5:11

CAG, I want to see the text. I mean, pushing someone out of the line at Disney World wasn’t a sin until 60 years ago. Does “not being synodal” mean not following the faithful as they make up false teachings? Does it mean sexual predation during a synod? One of those has always been a sin, synod or no, and one of them has always been an obligation. I need to read the actual statements from the speakers before I pounce on this.

Did I miss on the sin list under thou shalt not kill:
Scientists inventing/mutating viruses and bacteria for pandemics.
Forcing populations under duress to be injected with experimental “vaccines”.
Pharmasutical companies in the US and abroad selling adulterated creams and pills.

Under thou shall not steal:
Government officials funding labs with taxpayer monies to invent the above.
There’s a lot more.

Not being “nice” is not a sin. It’s just dumbing down people to their superficial external demeanour.

God have us rules to follow regardless of what age or era we live in because it’s our only directory to navigating this world which is fallen and FULL of temptations every day. Nobody listens to this emotional rubbish he is sprouting because it’s fake.

Frankly, young people are sick of our Church hierarchy. That’s why they either a) turn their back on this mediocrity and their Faith altogether or b) seek and cling to the authentic truth. Neither listen to this drivel.

Young people don’t do things by halves and if you give them mediocrity like this from an out-of-touch mob of seat-warmers such as Fernandez and his ilk, then expect the youth to give them the proverbial finger.

They forget that it’s that the youth who are the future of the Church.

Frankly, you wonder why Catholics are feeling tired and jaded. It’s the Churches crap parenting.

In a nearby parish one of the prayers for the people was the following:
“That we may be saved from our dependency on fossil fuels”

This said as the reader was standing in a well-lit airconditioned church – inTexas no less!
