This week the Pope will be going to Belgium where Sunday Mass attendance has cratered to about two percent of the Catholic population. That is demonstrative of the really crappy job that the Catholic clergy, as a whole, have been doing lately in transmitting the Catholic faith. (PopeWatch freely concedes that societal trends over the past few decades have been hostile to the Church, but the Church has had explosive growth in times more hostile than these in the past.)
Instead of working to reverse this, the Pope celebrates a priest who wishes to see massive immigration to Europe of non-Catholics. It is an old maxim that the Devil finds work for idle hands and Catholic clergy, many of them, have eagerly been proving that for the past 60 years. The teaching of Christ that the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church is true, as everything said by Christ is true. However there is nothing in that promise that prevents rampant infidelity from effectively neutering the Church in her mission to spread and defend the Catholic Faith, and that is what has happened since Vatican II.

It’s a little too late to lament non-Christian immigration to Belgium. Lots of beautiful empty historic Churches in Belgium. The Atheists have given way to Islam with not much effort from Muslim really. It’s been like this for decades and decades. Nothing new here.
I’m looking forward (sic) to PF’s preface to a book on climate change.
It could be a treatise on the seven deadly substances… carbon dioxide… farming.. fossil fuels… all things that give life.
David WS. I’m hearing that Greta Thunburg is giving the Pope’s work a nihil obstat.
