Thought For The Day

No surprise.  The chatteratti hated Reagan in life and they hate him in death.

I saw it on Friday and liked it a lot. I wonder if the part that said a KGB agent had been assigned to track his career starting back in the 1940’s is accurate. Also, does anyone know what the book was that inspired him when he was a child? The Russian also had a copy of it.

According to an archived 1981 NYT article about RR (not paywalled) by Jerry Griswold entitled “I’m a sucker for hero worship”:

“For the most part, he listed just the kind of books a typical 10-or 12-year-old boy growing up in Dixon, Ill., in the 1920’s might be expected to bring home from his twice-weekly visits to the library: historical romances, swashbuckling adventure stories, true-grit boys’ novels. But there is one notable exception. The book that ”made a lasting impression on me at about the age of 11 or 12, mainly because of the goodness of the principal character,” he wrote, is one ”I’m sure you never heard of” – ”That Printer of Udell’s.” Harold Bell Wright’s 1903 novel, subtitled ”A Story of the Middle West,” is the history of young Dick Falkner told in the Horatio Alger mode. …”

Frank- as a father of boys, thanks for that info.

You and a lot of the other regulars here are always far above other boards where discourse often is reflexive and one dimensional.

It is always good to spend time among folks who think

Don’s got a good thing going here.

Optimist, you’re welcome, and thanks for the compliment, though I think it’s largely our host’s doing, in taking care what is posted and carefully monitoring the site to help maintain the thoughtful and civil atmosphere here.

Speaking of our host, Donald, I am in awe of, and grateful for, your dedication to this blog. How you do it and maintain a law practice is amazing to me. I tried daily blogging for a while, and couldn’t keep up with the time demands, even after retirement. This blog and Instapundit are the only two I see every day, without fail.

I saw it yesterday with my husband and cousins, and we thought it was awesome. Such a fascinating life. Even non-Reagan fans and non-Republicans would be captivated by it. It gives me hope that this country can still produce presidents who are decent, ethical, moral, sensible, and who will defend us to the end.
