PopeWatch: Dysfunction

Go here to read the story which is a barn burner. As usual with Francis, Argentina is at the heart of the corruption which is such a feature of this pontificate.

The author’s chuffering about ‘comms’ is disconcerting.

I’ll throw out a guess that the issue is embezzlement.

Typically:
“A” players hire “A” & “B” players,
“B”…………,
“C” …………,
“D” players hire “D” & “F” players.

And if hired into a position of managing a business where an “F” has ruled for some time,
AND you know you 1. Can’t fix it without exposing it, 2. you can’t expose it because the Big Boss won’t let you, & 3. You’re the fall guy.
– you resign.

From a commenter @ the National Catholic Register:

According to LaPoliticaOnline it comes down to a power play orchestrated by Mestre behind the scenes to have his former right-hand man take his place at Mar del Plata. Apparently local pressure was put on the two would-be successors to back off. According to La Nacion this maneuvering culminated with a placard-waving crowd in the Mar del Plata cathedral demanding the appointment of the Mestre-favored successor, and a manifesto published in the local papers signed by prominent Mar del Plata citizens demanding the same. LaPoliticaOnline calls it an “internal rebellion” led by Mestre.

I don’t know if it’s true, but it’s as plausible as any explanation.

Agree with Art D, not sure what Altieri hoped to accomplish by essentially making fun of the Vatican press office instead of actually doing some digging himself. Whatever.

Must be something in the water. In civil society, they are now giving the new president, that they just elected, a load of grief because he is trying to bring some common sense to the country which has been mired in Peronism for over seven decades.
