Prosecutors have been using obstruction of an official proceeding charges against the J6 political prisoners as a legal sledge hammer. This is hilarious since protesters routinely obstruct Congressional proceedings and usually receive a slap on the hand. Justices Gorsuch and Alito in Supreme Court oral argument noted this disparity:

Keeping the SCOTUS in prayer seems like a good thing, especially now. Roberts badly needs to grow a spine for this case, I would guess. Let’s all beg the Holy Spirit to give him one.
Equality before the law is rapidly moving from my civics lessons to my history lessons.
It’s comforting to get a speed bump now and then.
Then again, this may be another example in my lecture on the runaway Executive Branch in the 21st Century, like student loan debacle.
I for one hope this bodes well for the final decision of the court. The reaction of the government isn’t much of a surprise–it’s not a good idea to try to intimidate or terrorize the federal government–but the lack of pardons, a’ la after the Whisky Rebellion, and the harsh sentences are deeply troubling.
