Not to be picky, but the moon won’t be visible tonight. It’s a new moon. As such, the moon is on the daylight side of the planet right now (remember: there is an eclipse over part of the US this afternoon).

We drove down to Salem IL to see just short of 3 minutes totality. After seeing the last total eclipse in 2017 we were definitely not going to miss this one, since it was close enough to make the drive down and back in a day. Stopped at the local public library, which had a special planetarium display and other activities, topped off with free ice cream :-). Skies were clear and the view was awesome. IMO, total solar eclipse totality is about as close as one can get to seeing the face of God in His creation.

Free Ice Cream!!!!
Sign me up.

Elaine Krewer. Your day sounded great.
I too enjoyed the show from Northern Michigan.
At its peak I’d guess we had 90% or more coverage.

The best part was renewing our Marian formula of Consecration to Jesus through our Lady before Mass began. 4:30pm prayers.

Happy New Year with by far the best fireworks ever… a celestial one. Yes… new Year. The feast was pushed to April 8th, Annunciation. As I watched the moon slide in front of the Sun prayers were being said… Hail Mary.
Thanksgiving prayers.

With her YES everything changed.
A new Year, Centuries, Millenniums… a new Life on Earth, thanks be to God.

It’ll be dark again tonight too (just like the eclipse).
