Real opposition would just shut everything down and let it all boil over.
I fear boiling over would have little long term effect. Humanity has suffered war, economic collapse, conquest, religious upheaval etc. and about the longest any of has been “permanent” is the length of the human memory through experience.
The rise of progressive education and its accompanying pragmatism means that too many think education is not about understanding reality and fitting my thoughts and behavior to it, but solely about learning to alter reality to fit my preferences. Modern successes in material technology (which came about from a deep understanding of fixed principles beyond human control) has encouraged the “schooled” to believe that moral realities can be altered also. The truly educated know otherwise.
As my Peruvian father-in-law likes to remind me, Ph.D., stands for Permanent Head Damage.
I’ve not only met some of them. I’ve met many of them. At it’s most basic level It starts with a denial of truth. As dirty harry used to say, A man’s got to know his limitations. And often the dumbest among us don’t have the mental ability to realize how dumb they are. But at some point, reality intrudes.
