Saint Gertrude the Great says it all. The souls in purgatory will also help us with our every day difficulties when they are invited.
American society generally ignores death whenever possible and assumes Heaven for everyone but Hitler.
As such, we not only ignore the great act of charity of praying for the souls in Purgatory, but we also miss out on cultivating friends there who might in gratitude pray for us!
I am thankful that my current priest includes a prayer for the souls in Purgatory in every Mass. By doing so, there are a hundred more prayers for those souls that day than there would have otherwise been!
