I do wonder how much longer this can go on.
But with the massive $$$ infusion of government money to Catholic Charities = Catholic Bishops’ back pockets—it will be for quite a while.
In twenty years, you’ll have seen another tsunami of parish closings (“Together in Faith”) and several dis-establishment/mergers of diocese.
Not that any of it will matter to Francis II or the episcopate of like-minded men.
Pretty soon, Catholicism in the West will look like the Tsarist armies of August 1918: a lot of be-medaled colonels and generals leading dispirited platoons of enlisted men.
In twenty years, absent an act of God giving the Church a true Vicar of Christ, the real Church will be underground, as in the England of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Get ready.
