Today is my 68th birthday. I am honored to share the date with Ronald Reagan. The successor to one of our worst presidents, Ronald Wilson Reagan restored American prosperity and morale. His policies initiated an economic boom which, with minor lapses, endured for almost a quarter of a century. He masterfully brought the Cold War to a successful conclusion with an American victory. The best president of my lifetime.

Thanks Elaine! Yep we got there. Some of the nicest weather I can recall since my initial visit to Winter War in 76. They only had two vendors, but I bought three games on the Vietnam War from one of them, and I think I helped make his day.

Thanks Frank! I remember Clark Clifford’s contemptuous comment about Reagan being an amiable dunce after Reagan curb stomped Carter. The Left and the Democrats never did understand Reagan and they still don’t.

One of Reagan’s greatest accomplishments was to demonstrate that you can get a lot done with a pleasant and truthful delivery rather that a litany of irritating polemics. Even most of his political opponents found it difficult to dislike him.

Working politicians and journalists who met him in meatspace were seldom viscerally hostile to him. Much of the chatterati actually did despise him as a human being and were particularly hostile to his wife. This extended to Edmund Morris, whose biography of Reagan turned into a train-wreck because he simply had no empathy for the man or his wife.
